Aaaaaaaaaaalrighty then !! We're continuing down our mellow road of balladry I really like this lesson from Ivan because it's got some great bends and melody lines. I wanted to point out one interesting thing.. at around 0:11, you'll notice how Ivan deliberately plays the note a little behind the beat. This is a really important aspect of blues playing and in guitar playing in general. The ability to stagger notes around the beat however you want to yet still make it sound intentional.. that's a big part of what we always refer to as 'feel'. Another thing is try not forget everything you've learned about your own vibrato style.. don't feel like you have to emulate the vibrato of the instructors in the videos.. play their lines but allow it to sound like you. You're doing a good job of it so far anyway but i just wanted to mention it Cool, I hope you enjoy.. wait, I think I've been too nice this week... Right, you snivelling cowards, you poor excuses of guitar players ! Grab your tools of the trade and earn your food ! Any slacking on the job will be met with discipline.. and not the kind of discipline that you like ! (That feels better now..) Deadline is, of course, 1 week from now - Friday 6th July (already ? wow, the months fly by so fast...) |

Hey Ben,
I'm not trying to rush things, but I think I will earn an other donnut ! Here is my attempt. It lacks of smoothness (?) and there are some "little" timing issues. I don't know how to work on this. The improvisations I do with Alex help me a lot, but there is still a lot to learn... Tell me what you really think. You can oint out a lot of problem if needed, I won't cry, as a warrior cannot weep in front of his Sensei. And as says David Walliman : Salut. http://soundcloud.com/grindguer/100-ballad-for-everyone -------------------- Million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten.

Cafe au lait sil vous plait (Just testin' out my French - excuse the random statements) I think you might be expecting worse criticism than it actually deserves because there's nothing wrong with the take except that maybe the vibrato and vending could be a bit more confident and even. The timing sounds fine The tone doesn't help you.. those digital software tones can't quite replicate the same sound as turning the gain down on an amp. Instead of getting a mild, clean distortion you get a fizzy tone.. that's not your fault, I've experience the same angry bee tone myself many times You can hold your head up high, young warrior, as you go to collect your well deserved Donut Boulangerie ! |

Hi again - Here goes my weeks effort on this Ballad. Again not perfect cause if it was I'd be the Sensei and not the apprentice.
http://soundcloud.com/zoomify/ballad-for-everyone Oh and I've had to play the end part on my B sting cause I've only got 21 frets on my strat and havn't made it to shop to get new strings for my musicman. I ran a marathon last weekend so I was late getting on the mountain this week. (hehe good excuse!!) |

Thanks for your take, I'm very pleased with it.. at the beginning it was a bit rushed but you calmed down when you realised the backing track wasn't going anywhere Bending was generally good too.. a couple near the end sounded a bit sharp if anything - you're too strong for the strings Joking aside, well done man Righto, I'll be serving more guitar mischief your way very soon guys...... |
