Injury Frustrations Options

What's the longest you've had to lay off playing guitar due to injury? I tried to come back back too soon and wasn't ready. It's been almost a month now, and while my wrist is a lot better, I know it's still got a good ways to go before it's fully healed. I've even mentally braced myself for six months - or a year if necessary. The doctor says it's just a bad case of tendonitis (pain is in the backside of my wrist). Frustrating is putting it lightly.
