I get a little buzzing on one of my amps when certain appliances are plugged into the power system in the house. It's either some kind of grounding or weird power thing in my house. I'm learning to make sure certain things are unplugged when I'm gonna play plugged in because I'm not up for buying a power conditioner yet either. I'm curious if something like a small APC UPS/battery for computers would be up to the task. They're cheaper at least. Probably not as robust as a serious power conditioner but maybe good enough? Usually that buzz is associated with poor electrical wiring, not properly grounded cables, heavy consumers etc.. I agree with Bogdan and Trond here, just get a power cable, and plug the amp into a different current outlet (the one that is not on the same line as the buzzing one) to see if the problem persist. With single coils you're just supposed to hear that hum on high gain settings,comes with the territory. Almost every noise gate pedal would probably help here,yeah. I must disagree. Most of the time you will find that when the gain is cranked or set high the noise is comming from the preamp section of the amp. In a high gain amp this is typical. Read my thread in gear called NS-2. There are instructions for hooking up the NS-2 That sends the preamp signal through the noise gate. Im telling ya....IT WILL BE SILENT. If it can silence (and I mean no noise) a loud 5150 with the gain cranked it will silence that valve king no problem. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. With my guitar plugged in - bzzzzz. So what I'm going to do now is first find another outlet (an earthed one... is that the right English word?). We have one upstairs, so that means I won't have to move my heavy-ass amp down the stairs to a friend. If that doesn't work - should I try a noisegate or go to the tech right away? Well I dunno if you answered me, but how many pedals and signalcables do you have? does your amp HUM even you when pull out ALL other cables than the powercable and head to cab? Yes the signal gets buffered though the effects ns-2 but on my 5150 this is the answer. Dont knock it untill you try it. You can turn your amp to 10 (or 11 nigel) and wont even know its on till you hit the strings. you will be amazed playing master of pupets. where it goes "Master"........silence...........Master.......silence. I always had a problem with the noise generated by my high gain amps. Got a tip for you GMCers. Boss NS-2 hook up. This even quiets down my 5150 to a zero noise amp. Most people put these between the guitar and the amp input....doesnt work very well. Most of the noise is from the preamp. Try this it works killer! Guitar > pedal input Pedal output> effects return Amp send> to pedal return Pedal send> amp input.
