The way I found speed was just connecting patterns that were easy for me to play fast. So I'd connect these patterns and throw in variations, and I'd get pretty cool fast runs. But I can't play them off the cuff and make them sound good(need to practice), but in theory it should work.
Most people will tell you to take a lick and play it to a metronome, and once you get comfortable with it at a slow BPM, raise the BPM a bit, and keep doing that till you get super fast. I haven't had any success with this because I don't know how match a lick to a metronome correctly. :oops:
