Thanks Muris. I have dent marks (of string) on my left fingers now.. I hope I can get it right soon.

Ah.. and enjoy your US trip.

Those marks are sign of hard work which is well appreciated, keep it up!

And thanks for kind wishes, will get back to you from a hotel in US. smile.gif

Hey Muris,

Great to see you are back. I have been pretty busy becoz of the festivals here. Should be back on track next week. I did try to record the Steve Lesson 2 times only to realize that they are not absolutely on time. So, I decided not to post. I really want to get those timing correct but not sure why it just doesn't happen. I am in mid way of fusion jam.. that is pretty tricky indeed.

Maybe you can advise me something on how I can improve on timing. I am starting to hate it, I felt I was improving now its like stuck at that same place.

Thanks.

No problem at all, take your time and have fun at festival, next week sounds just great!!

Regarding timing, there are no certain hints but only more listening and better understanding of timing.
It IS tricky to start with new kinds of timing if we have been playing straight grouping all the time,
we need more time to adapt, that's all.
You'll get there eventually, no worries, listen to the timing
and you'll imitate it correctly after a while, stay with backing and it'll be tight. smile.gif

Thanks Muris. have been doing that. I feel like I have grasped the timing but when playing I always tend to fasten that a bit. Don't realize it while playing but its noticeable when listening to my own rec. will give a few shots whenever I have some time.

For the homework, I got the basic chords for Your Latest Trick by Dire Straits.

Here is for the intro:

/ C#m / B / G#m / A / F#m / B / G# / A G# / C#m /

For the song, the chords seems pretty changing here and there.

Well you were pretty close, good job! smile.gif

A note tho, Mark uses lots of slash chords in his progressions
which was the case here as well,
there is B/A and E/G#.
This E/G#m is actually the one you named as G#m,
maybe you were listening on PC speakers without enough bass, could be.
Also there is one F#(major) chord in main theme,
it goes right before last B chord in progression
and it has "second dominant" role.
Are you familiar with second dominant term? smile.gif

Nope. I am pretty much stuck at just basic chords for rhythms. I did read the dominant and augmented chords (constructing 3 notes chord) but have almost forgot it. I don't have a good ear and unless I hear some guitars or real bass, its very hard for me to find the chords. I can only try to find basic major/minor chords.

Yep, I am using the speakers on my macbook pro which is very trebly and the saxophone takes it all. I hear the keys on the intro but for the song, its just vocals so hard to find out chords.

That sounds great, can't wait to see it!!

Regarding so called "second dominants", it's pretty easy to understand tho
so here's a quick and I hope useful lesson. smile.gif
The song is in a key of C#m or E major and regular triads are:
E, F#m, G#m, A, B, C#m and D#dim.
Dominant as it is should be major chord to have full domination over a chord,
there are also minor dominants as we'll see in this exercise but what we need the most
are major chords in function of dominant.
Dominant is 5th degree in a scale, in E major scale we have B chord at 5th degree
and it's all ready major so we're good with that one.
Now let's have a look at parallel minor which is C#m,
you might wanna look at it as a key of C#m for better navigation.
It's dominant is G#m, this chord is minor and it's already included in a key.
Now, G# chord has been appearing few times and it can be considered
2nd dominant for 6th degree chord (which is C#m) in a key of E.

Now it's time to deal with F# chord, it works as 2nd dominant for our regular
dominant in a key of E which is B chord.
Pure "dominant" for B chord in a key of E would be F#m but it's minor chord
and it doesn't really dominates that heavily over B chord.
That's why we use F# instead. smile.gif

For better understanding of this I suggest you to play few chords, something like this:
E (root), than F#m (2nd degree), A (4th degree), B (5ths degree), go back to E and then play
F# (major) with following B, eventually you might wanna end whole thing on E.
You'll hear how this F# major gravitates to B chord,
it's 2nd dominant (for real dominant) in a key of E. smile.gif

Frankly, I didn't quite understand the theory. smile.gif I will read all over again (have done that 2-3 times). smile.gif

On the other news, I just bought the G-Force on ebay. I couldn't work out the one in UK so opted out on US e-bay and hopefully ship it for less than the Triaxis. Spending tonnes here. smile.gif Should be here in 2-3 weeks. I am not sure if I m doing the right thing spending all my earnings. sad.gif

Besides that, Fusion Jam is coming along well and I can play it well. Few kinks here and there. Need more practice. I m happy my fingers are adapting to these kind of weird finger twisters. smile.gif
