I have sold loads of guitars and amps through FB marketplace over the last few years. I have a couple of listings up just now.

Ibanez genesis collection RG MIJ. Had it up for £400. Only had one person interested and offered £300. A think selling a MIJ Ibanez for that price would be crazy.

Marshall DSL 5W Valve amp. Had no interest what so ever.

Both listings have being up over a month.Selling gear previously it would be sold within a week or two.

Has anyone experienced the same recently.

Thanks Sean

I'm always selling gear (and buying too) and what I've noticed lately is that I get a lot of really "low-ball" offers ... and then the prospective buyer gets offended and even belligerent when I refuse the offer. I even had to block someone on Reverb.

My very unscientific hypothesis is that folks are assuming that since the economy is stagnant we should be dropping our prices. The fallacy in that line of thinking is 1) not realizing that prices in general are not falling (they're rising) and 2) the musical instrument market is very niche. At least 50% of the sellers are trying to 'sell' because they want to offload one piece of gear in order to buy another one. Not necessarily because they need the money.

Unless you need the money, patience is a virtue.

You make a good point Ken.Any guitars a look at are alot more expensive in what a seen them selling for a few year ago. A sold a great condition fender tele Baja not to long back for £400. Now a see them for sale looking abit rough for £600.

A always price things more than fair for a quick sale but when a offer offends me it does make me angry.

Yeah a dont need the money a will hold on untill a get the money a want but just seems the market for selling gear has changed drastically.

Interesting to hear peoples thoughts from other parts of the world.

Thanks Sean

Marketplace is somewhat limited imho. Have you tried REVERB and EBAY? Both hit a huge audience and I've seen some crazy prices on there. What sort of RG are you selling? I'd love to see it! Maybe post the link?

I have noticed things have cooled off a bit since prices for gas/food have been going nuts lately.

A have never used Reverb. A may post it up on EBay . A used to sell things on eBay a while ago but stopped as I thought the charges were getting expensive.

I still buy occasionally on EBAY but I don't sell there - the fees are way too high.
Reverb.com is much better, plus the audience is generally musicians.

Hi Todd

It's a Ibanez RG Genesis collection.

A recently bought a Gibson SG and a Ibanez RG565 prestige. A have being playing the RG565 more often hence reason for sale.

A did get quite offended when someone offered me £300😂. A see Indonesian made Ibanez guitars going for more than £300

Yeah thats a great price!!! I can't blame you for being offended at a lowball offer like that. Things have slowed down a bit on gear buying as the economy keeps getting worse and prices for everythying else keeps going up, but expanding out of facebook marketplace can get a lot more eyeballs on your advert.

I have always been a fan of the RG565

Bumping this.

In the last couple of weeks or so I have noticed that prices are dropping a little bit. At least on the stuff I'm looking at, which admittedly is not 'mainstream' gear.

The market seems to have shifted yet again. That is a GREAT price for that axe. Id by it myself if it were on this side of the pond. Those were bringing double that not long ago. The huge price spike gear has enjoyed seems to have abated a bit now that folks are seeing huge price increases for the price of everything else such as food, fuel, living costs, etc.

The Genesis line are great guitars but not technically "Prestige" guitars as they are not branded as such. Still, any MIJ Ibby for under a grand is a steal imho.

One cool thing about reverb.com is that you can see a transaction history for a given guitar model with a handy chart showing price momentum over time. You can pull up your guitar and see what sort of price action is happening. I used to use ebay as well. It's gotten really lame in recent years though.

There has definitely been a downturn in the market in the last few months which is in direct relation to all of our economies. I've had some offer recently for things that I can only describe as 'insulting'!!!

I'm noticing big drops on the (oddball) stuff I'm looking at.
Up until a week ago, these little Recording King 'Parlour' guitars with the goldfoil pickup were at least $250.00 and the black ones were always harder to find.
One listed yesterday for $159.00 with free shipping. The price was reduced twice from it's initial offering. I jumped on it.
