I would bet that the solo below, whomever played it, is completely improvised. That's not a 'part' that was worked out. What strikes me about it is how good his time is and how confident is his execution. Even w/o hearing the drums and bass from the original track I can tell where the groove is. That's one of the reasons players like that strike such a chord with people. They're playing music in the moment. It's REAL - folks 'get' that.
Mike McCready. I was trying to learn the solo for Alive recently and heard the guitar only track from the album. It doesnt sound like the most cleanly played solo ever laid down Skip to 3:44 to hear the end solo. I think it was Mike who played the solo in Alive, might have been stone though. Either way they are both two of my favourite players. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

Jimmy Page would have to be my favorite sloppy guitarist when it comes to soloing.

Great examples, especially when we talk about stuff that was made on spot and sounds just right - Kim Thail is another good shot - you all surely know this tune:

As many punk bands or punk guitarists I could name here, I'm also saying Jimmy Page.
On a second thought I'd say Jimy Hendrix. -------------------- |

Indeed he is I just practiced some double stop based phrases this weekend and I was smiling thinking on how great these are - we kind of owe it to him, don't we?
