Since I'm in the unusual position of being on both sides of this: a person who writes virtual instruments and a guitarist, I'll share this opinion: Yes, I could write a virtual instrument that is capable of the wide range of expression achievable with a guitar (as opposed to the rather mechanical performance in the Ample demo), but the complexity of controlling all that expressiveness would make it even more difficult to master than a real guitar, even for an experienced keyboard player. So, aside from the sketching usage you mentioned, nobody is doomed .
