I put 9 hours because I'm loving guitar that much. Unless I have something else that is interesting to do, I want to play guitar.

I actually relax at the end of the day by practicing and running some scales and maybe inventing a backing to solo over. If I don'tget to do that I get seriously sketchy. I usually wish I'd brought my guitar on vacation. Playing guitar is alost a meditation. Even just practicing shapes/scales can get your mind off of everything and allow you to focus on symmetry, form, etc. Repeating scales is almost like repeating a Mantra during meditation. The repetitive nature allows the brain to dig in a bit. Sounds a bit "Spacey" and "Hippie", though.

I've found that on those times when I go for about a week without playing, for the first hour or so when I pick the guitar back up I have a very different approach to my phrasing. Its like I forget my habits for a little while and play like a different person with different ideas.

But then, after a short time it's back to playing my usual way laugh.gif

I usually take guitar with me on vacations, but if away for a night sometimes is a nice break to rest and get refreshed for new ideas and goals.
