This article is a little old, but I just came across it, you can read it here.

In the article Kid Rock says the Steven Tyler has "destroyed" Rock N' Roll by going on American Idol, this is coming from guy that performed rap metal for many years. Not that theres anything wrong with that, but according to his standards, such a fusion of genres should be considered a desecration of the holy institution of Rock N' Roll.

But is RnR really such a holy institution? Didn't rock originate from musicians that rebelled against the standardized music of their time? It seems like one type of orthodoxy has been replaced with another kind - Rock N' Roll orthodoxy.

So, now that RnR has become a quasi-religion, is it time to rebel against it?

edit: typo correction

No music is worth rebelling against, even the manufactured pop stars that will barely last half a decade as a true artist don't deserve attention. Rock N' Roll will be whatever the listener wants it to be, Kid Rock has done many genres and has done them all so mildly he is really not a decent spokesperson for Rock N' Roll, or anything really.

Find what you like, and listen to it, whatever you don't like, ignore. Pop music and radio music etc make me mad because so many musicians aren't actually musicians. Autotuned vocals, lip synched performances, getting other people to write their songs, that stuff in my eyes makes you nothing more than a performer, entertaining in the short time, worthless in the long time. I dislike it on a personal level because music is very personal to me, more than an "average" listener, but still, theres no point in "rebelling" against it.

In my eyes, the time I spend rebelling on it, I could of been listening to Abysmal Dawn rip a fabric in the space time continuum.

RnR is a wide topic, it started out years ago, and rebel spirit was always present, but not against other forms of music, it's rebel against forced standards, dogmatic ideas, about being free. This form of rebelling won't be gone, but the forms of music are changing and evolving.
