Aha! So do you have experience with any of there stuff, perhaps the RM MTS series with the swappable preamp modules?

Chipping in that I never tried that one but I checked everything about it when I was hunting for a new amp.
I thought that system seemed great in itself but I chose not to get that Randall for two reasons.

* Knowing myself I'd stick to a couple of favourite modules anyway so I wouldn't need 15-20 modules anyway.
* Precursors to model systems have had quality problems where the connections have been a weak point. Needs mainenance and regular cleaning with electric cleancer. I suck at frequent maintenance.

I had several amps on my list, like ENGL Powerball, Blackmoore signature and a few more. Ended up with the H&K Switchblade for it's versatility, great cleans, great crunch, teriffic British lead and US Lead. So it suited all my needs of sounds up to insane gain.
The only thing missing is a built in noice gate but I can add a pedal anytime.

The reasons the ENGL Powerball and Blackmoore fell off was that the ENGL models didn't have the exact crunch and lead I was looking for. If I was in a Numetal band for modern chugging, yes. I'd get EMG81 pu's and a Powerball. But for versatility, not for me. Marshall... yeah well, if the JVM had been out I maybe would have got that one instead., but none of the present ones were all what I needed.

Now Marshall has the JVM model family and ENGL has a couple of new amps that could be interesting too.

BTW, in the end I bought the DistX, which is a fine pedal, must post a review at some point. However, the bigger surprise was that at the same time a randomly bought a pair of JJ preamp tubes for the Tiny Terror just to see if it made any difference...and the change was dramatic. More gain and more energy, the thing just came to life! I had always been a little unsatisfied with the sound of the TT and the tube change has made all the difference. Almost don't need the DistX anymore.

Orange have been known to put different tubes in there amps at different times, and of course u could just be really unlucky and get duff tubes and if it is your first tube amp you would not realize it. If you have a tube amp, would recommend getting some new tubes in it just to see what difference it makes since they are so cheap.

Thanks for the update on the Terror. I think I mentioned it before but the one I checked I didn't like at all (old band mates amp). But if one can bring better life to it with JJ tubes it could be an amp worth condidering.

Yeps. Well, people do say that there is an "Orange" sound and either you like it or you don't, I would say there is probably some truth in that. Changing the tubes made a big difference for me, but essentially the tone has not changed, just sounds uncompressed and a bit more gain. With the new tubes I would say the TT does do metal (without additional effects), and that metal is kinda old style "pure distortion" if you get my drift. Anything else and you do need a pedal. Probably helps to put more speakers in front of it as well in order to increase the load and push it harder, which I will try at some point.

I'm actually buying a RM4 with RT2/50 and the following modules: 1086, Grail, SL+ , Blackface. smile.gif
In three weeks I'll have it ready for some feedback. At the moment I only use my DF-7 straight into my computer.
