I would say something like this... --First, try to practice and memorize scales, a few at a time. --Next, work on excersizes for techniques. Alternate picking, Sweep picking, tapping... --Finally, you can play what you like to play. And never overwork yourself, or try to hard on something you can't do; you can work your way to it.
