They're getting increasingly popular where I live, I recently played a Fender-like model and liked it. The pickups were a little too hot for me (not so awesome cleansor maybe it was meant for shred, pickups were Seymour Duncan) but the neck was really good. Same feel as a Japanese ibanez only a little thicker. I checked and they don't have super budget priced guitars but the mid. prices guitars seem very competitive, 2 people I know bought one recently as a second guitar. Both passive and active pickups with their HDR (High Definition Revoicer), and the sounds are everything from the most vintage Strat to totally modern. The build quality is also fantastic, with great little touches like the rolled fingerboard edges, and a neck finish that feels like it's been played in for years. It's really beautiful, too, with the flame top, and little touches like the fact that it's an inlay on the top, NOT a clear pickguard! Oh, and how about that the control cover and tremolo cover on the back are made out of wood, not plastic! They also take an interesting approach to materials, using a spruce body with a maple top, with 5 tuned chambers carved into the body. It's amazing how lively and resonant it is, even when not plugged in. I don't understand why these guitars aren't more popular. They're reasonably priced to begin with, and it seems like you can get great deals on them used, too... I wouldn't hesitate to buy another (I'm looking at a 5th Avenue Kingpin), and would highly recommend them. Everyone who plays this guitar is blown away, and always acts surprised as to the builder. However, the inside word is that they ghost-build for a LOT of companies, so I guess they're happy to fly under the radar with their own brand while they get lots of quiet business building for other brands. I liked the look of them both but really could only afford one of them. I tried them out and couldn't decide between them so ended up walking out of the shop with both of them. They are great guitars and were very reasonably priced at the time! They are both 'Artisan TC' models. Of the current models I can recommend the 'Freeway Classic', superb guitar for the money!!! My 2 feel very similar to my 72 Fender Thinline Tele, although they sound more like a Standard Tele. I didn't know Chowy was a Godin Endorsee! That's cool!!
