Right now I'm basically a strict alternate picker but I think I want to learn sweep picking so will sweep picking mess up my alternate picking?

I'm an alternate picker, but I've tried sweep picking as well, although I'm horrible at it...
 I don't find it messes up my alternate picking, so you shouldn't be afraid of that !
