why was something so popular die so quickly

I think the romance of the music was taken out

i.e 'I remember you" skid row-a song about passion and romance(even though it rocked), still of the night , to name another
and even if you are not singing about ladies , their still can be passion
and can passion come across when all there is is a constant vocal fry?

I can think of many bands that have made intensely passionate music about nearly every subject, and have successful international careers as well. Nothing's ever happened to Metal, its evolved and changed and thats it. The following is still worldwide and insanely loyal, whether or not you like the direction of newer bands is subjective and rather irrelevant I think.

The only way Metal can die, the only way any music can die is if you let it die inside you. If you still got the love for older metal, then its still alive, its time however, just may be over. At least until its revival, like Thrash Metal or something similar.

Nothing Cursin... Only pop-glam metal bands tend to reach wider population fast but that was only a music"trend" that passed like every other "trend", comes to an the end...I'm not sure that real metal ever had big massess behind (except pioneers Priest / Maiden/ Sabbat) and maybe it's better that way...
I don't know how's situation in US, but here in Europe, vast majority of older bands are still working / recording albums,/ touring , it's important that metal passion is still with them, and the fans also appreciate and support that...

METAL has gone back to it's original home in the underground, here in the states at least. The last radio station here that played any music with an actual guitar is now gone and switched to playing lady Gaga. It's a bit sad. But you just can't kill Metal. It has flourished in Europe and South American where fans in generally seem to just be more discerning on the whole. Here in the states, it's become common for bands to have to leave the country to play decent sized gigs and then come back here and play to 10 people on a Tuesday.

Such is the way of things. I'm glad to see good music still lives. There are still great bands. But the perversion of "Popular/glam/pop" Metal here in the states was always doomed to die since it stemmed from "Trendiness". Some good stuff came out of it, but it remains confined to a very specific demographic.

So stay Metal and Move to Europe/Brazil smile.gif

Well, at the PROG POWER festival that I saw Marcus play at, it was PACKED! Which was awesome. But yeah, here in town local bands have it hard. There are very few venues for bands right now and the last rock radio station converted to dance music. So anyone playing Metal in Georgia is doing it simply for the love of it, which honestly makes for some great music, even if you have to dig to find it smile.gif

Yeah, that's good to hear!! Playing music for simply raaawwwwkss!

So the situation's probably the simmilar as in the beginning of 80's , when US metal bands had to go to Europe to sign a record deal?

There is a lot of Truth to that to be honest smile.gif My buddies in GNOSTIC had to go to europe to sign their deal. They finally signed with SEASONS OF MIST which is a French Lable.

Pretty much smile.gif And the good news is that the folks at the lable spoke english and French thankfully smile.gif Also, they signed ATHEIST (Steve Flynns other band) at the same time. I suspect they signed GNOSTIC just to get ATHEIST. Such is the biz.

ATHEIST plays the HUGE festivals in Europe like WACKEN OPEN AIR, then when they get back to the states, they play to 50 people at a skate shop. Iit's a funny world.

Even in Serbia ATHEIST would gather around 200-300 people, cos they're big cult here!!And what about Morbid Angel, Deicide , Cannibal Corpse ? I hope they're not playing in skate shops also??? mad.gif
