In Flames use Peavey 5150 amps (van halen amps). They have a lot of attack and gain, the eq setting is a lot of bass and hights with scooped out mids. Also you have to detune you guitar pretty low to drop A#.

I saw a national (arentinian band) using that amp (5150) and it sounded very agressive & modern. It's a good choice if you want that type of sound.

Thanks very much boys. I know so they used 5150 heads, but realy is this amp so agresive and modern? I never listen it. I have triaxis and sound is agresive but less than In Flames sound. They use 5150 on live play, but in studio? I mean sound of their albums specialy Jaster race or Soundtrack to your escape have great sound also 5150? or something another?
What you mean? Is triaxis better than 5150? stupid question but im interested on your wiew. Thanks

Hi there :]

Well you have some hell of a good gear so the problem is that you need to configure it properly. A friend of mine sounded almost 1:1 with S.R.V. with a SQUIER Strat and a Peavey. He just knows which knob to turn and how to push the guitar to sound like him.
So my advice would be not to think about which amp is "better" but to think how to make your very good gear sound the way you want to. For example get a thicker pick, max the volume of your guitar, cut your mids, play more agressively then turn some knobs a bit more and you'll definately get that kind of sound even if you're playing a Sratocaster ;]

Cheers,
Hristian

Really? Drop A#? Didn't they use to use C tuning on early albums, especially Jester Race and Whoracle?

It's not my expertise of sound but I read and atricle in a Swedish magazine just rescently about In Flames and they claimed, just like you guys stated, that they tune to C and drop the E further to Bb and use 0.68 or 0.70 strings.
For Abnegation they used various Gibsons and found the Baritone model to be great for this tuning.

Amps heads were Peavey 5150, which is popular for archiving the "Gothenburg sound".

They layed the first rhythm tracks using Peavey 5150 through Marshall 4x12 and Mesa 4x12 miked with SM57 and one ADK and an other amp was the Tiny Terror. Preamps that were used were API AD2 and Empirical Labs compressor called Fatso

The main guitar tracks were recorded with Peavey 5150 and Marshall JCM800 KK through Mesa 4x12 cabinet miked with SM57 and Royer R-122. Preamps being Ward Beck M460 and Amek mic preamp 9098.

And appearantly they bought their own studio to record the album and judging by the somewhat geeky gear used these guys mean business and are very particular about their sound, they know this very well cool.gif
