Depends what you mean by just got serious .... how long have you been practicing to a metronome? Practice every day for a month solid and you should definately see an improvement, but everyone is different, and sometimes you hit a plateau. Ironically, the better you get, the harder it will become to get an improvement. So you're at a good point to learn some good habits that will serve you well later. I would suggest that when you are working with a metronome, you are not aiming for speed. You're aiming to learn how to play relaxed but accurate with both the left and right hand. Once you can play a passage relaxed, the speed will follow, and you'll have little in the way of barriers towards gaining some real velocity.
