> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Your First Riff by Gabriel Leopardi

Another attempt at this riff. I struggle with the position of my left hand. I tried so many ways to get it in the same position as Gabriel but I did not succeed.

Hi Gert!

It's great to see a new take from you. It's obvious that you have worked hard and we can now notice many improvements.

I like the fact that you added a little more force when you pick the strings. Also, the fact that you do not shorten the notes anymore is a really great thing.

Yes, you need a little more time until you will succeed in fixing your left hand position (only then you will get rid of the unwanted string noises), but this is a normal thing.

You know, the fact that you still do a kind of "jumping" when you switch from the index to ring finger will not help you to correct the position of the hand.
Stretch your fingers a little. Remember what I have told you: each finger should have his own fret. So, the index should be positioned on the 2nd fret, the middle finger where the 3th fret is and the ring finger on the 4th fret.

Because you did not play this lesson at full speed, we can't give you a grade for this performance. Anyway, to have an idea how much you improved your playing, for this take (if it was at normal tempo) you would have received a 7 from me.

Keep up your awesome work!

Cool - for reference I will include the Monicas right hand position comparison image below (nevermind the horse 😂). Improving your right hand position is an important general pointer for your playing:
