I installed Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings last night and found that the 5th and 6th strings were too thick for the notches to fit nicely in the nut. So I just tuned and detuned until the rough strings filed them down. tongue.gif Anyone else run into this annoying problem before?

By the way, my Jackson SLSMG has a plastic-like nut. Or whatever material it is...

It happens smile.gif

Be careful with the nut, it can cause intonation problems if you grind it. It's a long-term expandable part as well, because it has so much contact with the string. I would advise changing the nut every 2-4 years if you play often. Other than that, I don't think there should be a problem. If there is, changing the nut is not difficult or expensive.
