Would you listen to this and tell me what to improve on?
I'm having a bit of a hard time being creative in the long run.

thanks smile.gif

(It's all improvised, so I already know about some bad timings and occasional missing tongue.gif)

I have the same problem from beginning,
to be creative in a long run,
actually I'm sure most of do,
specially if it' fully improvised. smile.gif

I won't be commenting your technique at all,
I see you're pretty descent player in that aspect of playing tho.

So I would try to say few words about expression and music.

First of all, your take is like 3mins long,
which is way more than common guitar solo.
That means you should make a light motive or a phrase,
smaller main theme, call it as you want.
You can do many variation on it,
to get more pleasure to the listener.
After that it's easy to add more technical stuff like
sweeping,tapping or whatever.
Another important thing is to make gaps when playing.
A gap might mean much more comparing to
legato playing all the time,
not legato as a technique but connecting every note while playing.
Connection is good but if you do that all the time
it gets kind a boring, take a breath here and there,
there's always something behind you, even a silence is music.
try to tell a story when playing long shots,
start slowly, repeat same thing few times, then go further,
go back for main theme, upgrade it,make gap,
hit a chord here and there which is cool tool in soloing as well.

There are some advices but best way is to
record yourself and listen,
do not focus on your technique when listening,
try to hear if you are saying something or not. smile.gif

Great reply.

I made it long so that you could see my limits by the way smile.gif I wouldn't make a 3min jam in a song tongue.gif
Also, what kind of chords fit well to such melodies?
I am having a hard time deciding what to use when palying with distortion.

Thanks!
And also thanks for the kind words smile.gif

Hit G chord using 3 strings
when having G in progression per example,
will give everybody nice break from pure single note soloing.

Keep going, sounds great so far! smile.gif

I think inversions of the chord played, maybe coloured a little. Because you'll have outlined the G pretty much with base and rythm guitar so if you play the G maj 7 chord (fully from bottom to top) G B D F# then you risk it to sound blurry and it might take too much space. Instead, skip the G note completely and play the B minor chord. You can play the B minor in different inversions, moving up or down per example:

B-----D------F#-B-C-D-E-F# bend up to G as a nice touch of relief earned by playing the root note biggrin.gif
D-----F#-----B
F#----B------D

Got it, I will try smile.gif
It's really hard to keep going to new passages when improvising, but I guess that comes with ear...?

It comes with ear and years as well. smile.gif

But ear is good guide, singing as well,I hope you're singing tho!!
Sing something "in your mind" and try to reproduce it on guitar,
with singing you'll get lot of nice sounding phrases and passage
that don't sound like guitar type chops,up and down the scale. smile.gif

Yeah, I do sing. and I try to sing 'in my head' when improvising. It works some of the time, but not all the time smile.gif
Did you start singing immediately when you started? I'd like to gain relative pitch aswell.

Yeah, I've been singing as far as I can remember. smile.gif

Relative pitch will come by singing a lot
and learning as much as possible by ear.
