Does it also works as an attenuator on Your wife/girlfriend ??? *i think i must get one of these...* biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I have 8 cats. I have met women who love animals this much, except only talking in the pet department of Walmart. Not one of the best spots to pick up chics.

Seriously, and I am not the only one, the clean channel of a good tube amp is what attracts me to it. I think you get a better sound with the correct set of stomp boxes running through a good tube amp with a great clean channel. The Vai Legacy is fantastic. I can't imagine who would not love this amp. It makes standard pickups sound as good as any pickup you would want, because the harmonic range of the presence is unreal.

I have a attenuator. It took me 2 minutes to know I agree with others, they suck, even the best of them. What you lose is just not worth what you gain with an attenuator.

edit: also for home play, well you want it to sound good. most important thing may be the speakers. My Vai Legacy is a combo, pretty big amp, closed cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30's in it. My Carvin Belair also has those 2 speakers (which are fine ones), with an open cabinet. I found using both, setting the Belair on top of my Legacy and using the speakers in parallel, really sounds fabulous. The Belair is a nice amp also, but sounds a lot different from the Legacy. I am sure I will use it more in the future again for variety, with the 4 speakers. I just think people are wasting their time cranking up little amps. I doubt many impartial listeners would think such an cranked up amp has a sound that compares to my set up. Not unless they have a good speaker set up for sure.

Actually it sounds amazing. The clean tone is like nothing I have ever played on before. You can nice breakup when you crank up the volume, kick in the overdrive and turn the attenuator up so it is at a proper listening volume! The only pedal I own is the metal muff and it sounds killer! It really is the best of both worlds. I also got mine at an unreal price...$800 brand new at a Fourth of July sale!!!

Nice!, awesome price indeed, lucky you!

I have a Carvin Legacy, which is known to be a very very loud 100W. Just the right size for the bed room.

Nearly there but a +1.

Never seem to get above 4 cats here for some reason due to natural attrition sad.gif and we neuter asap. We do feed a lot of strays though rolleyes.gif .

At present 2 cats and 1 kitten (plus 1 silly dog, 2 rabbits, several chickens, a pig and 2 lambs). Neighbour's also got his flock of sheep in our field at the mo.

So I need +15W to drown out the farmyard wink.gif

I agree to that, I owned a lot of amps but noone can compare to my Marshall 2103, when it comes to clean sound it is another story, but I think that the speakers must move some air as well to make it sound good.... I mean, with an attenuator the amp are burning, but not the speakers......

That may depend on speaker load, efficiency and so on but generally yes...

Not only this, but attenuator colors the sound as well. THD Hotplate is known for his transparency, but still it cannot preserve the sound if it is attenuated a lot. The speakers have to move air in order to achieve some tone, no point in feeding 10W in 200-300W cab and expecting it to play good. The bottom line, attenuation levels with all the devices should be taken with a pinch or salt. If it says -16db, go to 8-10dB for a good sound, and allow a decent volume for speakers to deliver a good punch.
