THD Hotplate is known for his transparency, but still it cannot preserve the sound if it is attenuated a lot. The speakers have to move air in order to achieve some tone, no point in feeding 10W in 200-300W cab and expecting it to play good. The bottom line, attenuation levels with all the devices should be taken with a pinch or salt. If it says -16db, go to 8-10dB for a good sound, and allow a decent volume for speakers to deliver a good punch.
