Famous models throughout the years have been sampled and emulated through software, so if you get a free one, the sound won't be that great, if you get a commercial version, the sound will be better, ease of use better etc.. how much money, that much music. I tell you this because it's the same with guitar software modellers, if you find a free one, you can expect much poorer quality than a commercial version like Guitar Rig, Amplitube, ReValver etc..
If you want to make sounds similar to Stratovarius, Rhapsody, it may be best to check the gear of their pianists, and try to find matching software emulator. For example, Jens Johansson from Stratovarius is notable user of Korg Polysix keyboard. You can find Korg Polysix within the Korg Legacy Collection: http://www.vintagesynth.com/korg/legacy.php It has Korg MS-20 analog synth, Polysix and Wavestation. I've used in 5-6 projects these VSTis and they are great for creating all kinds of sounds, lead-oriented. You can say that this VSTi is lead-oriented. Some others are ambient/pad oriented. Here's a list of free ones as well (although, you will need to test them, I haven't really used them). http://www.vstplanet.com/Instruments/VST_Synthesizers.htm -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

If you are familiar with DAW Sonar8, it has excellent VST synthesizers!
