Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Speed Runs Intermediates by Darius Wave

Hi.

I chose this lesson on the advice of our friends Freepizza.
I hope my take will motivate him to finalize his. I think motivating each other is part of the GMC spirit.

I tried many things with my DVMARK multiamp amplifier but in the end, I returned to the "guitar rig" simulation with Fender and Lanney impulses with Nadir.
I lowered the input signal of "Guitar Rig" to 25% and that of the sound card to 40% because my microphones are very powerful.

I played 2 different tracks on the 00.00.00 to 00:28:00 section => 1 on the left and 1 other on the right that I mixed in order to fatten the sound. I realize it's not enough to compete with Darek's exceptional touch and dynamics but it's the best I've managed to do.

Then it's a mono track.
I hope you will enjoy my work.

Hi Manu!

Great to find your take on REC. You did an awesome job!

There are a few things that can be polished a little more.

I understand why you chose to do double tracking in the first part of the lesson, but to be honest, this trick does not make the runs sound closer to Darius playing. The idea is to get good strength management for your right hand. On the first run pattern, you need to apply more force when you play the alternate picking notes and relax your hand when you play the legato notes. Without this, the power in sound created by panning the guitar tracks creates just an illusion and amplifies the dynamics issues.

The tapping section requires more work. You tend to rush some of the notes.

Overall, your take sounds awesome and I really enjoyed it. You get an 8 from me.

Keep up your amazing work!

Very cool,

You are keeping in line with GMC spirit for sure - inspiring us all! 😁

I think this is close to a flawless take -

I notice a bit of a glitch when you are switching positions at ~00:35

And sure you can always sound closer to Darius' tone.

To me it sounds like you have a bit more low-end and distortion - whereas Darius relies more on the playing attack to get that distortion/breakup. Other than to keep practicing, you can also experiment with lower gain settings and then add a subtle compressor before the amp - to help you with attack.

I'ts a 9 from me 👌
