Well, if I go back to my youth, the 5 bands I listened to the most were:

Die Toten Hosen
Die Ärzte (yeah, the big two of german punk, or rock nowadays)

Green Day
Blink 182
The Offspring

I know, nobody could have guessed that this would be my list wink.gif

Your list is pure punk!!

For me..

As for Gabe, I picked up the guitar because of ... Guns N Roses wink.gif

Let's see now... about the others:

Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, The Offspring

This was basically my earliest influence/ inspiration for playing and listening to music!

I have no idea who I am.

I was 9 when I started learning guitar and there were no bands that lead me into choosing guitar. Even when I was 12 I was into Howard Jones (a keyboard player!) I got into Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan when I was around 14. I think I always looked at the guitar (for me) as an accompaniment tool as a singer, until my 20's or so.

I'll have to do some more deep thinking to answer this question.

If I could make my list longer, I should add each of the bands that you listed mate. I remember that just a bit after Mondo Bizarro, it came to my discography: Smash (Offspring), the black album and Dookie (Green Day). I wasted this cds.

I just remembered there was also an Argentinian punk rock band that I liked when I was starting to play guitar. This was the album:

Great to read all this! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

1) Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow. My cousine introduced me to this album and the solo in moonlight shadow. It was amazing and I bought hes acoustic for about 200 euro, 32 years ago haha.. Still got it.. A Takeharu..

2) Yngwie Malmsteen - Hes Rising Force blowed everyones mind back in the days of 1984 and even mine. Not to forget Europe winning best
rockgroup in Sweden 1982 with guitarist John Norum (shure u heard of him) smile.gif

3) Scorpions - 1985 The album "World Wide Live" made me forever in love with Mattias Jabs fantastic guitarplaying! I still listen to it and its sure one of the top 5 albums for me:)

4) And we take a Big step 30 years forward! I have not played the electric guitar in many many years... Acoustic playing and singing yes, simple songs no advanced at all.
I have refused to listen at anything else than 80:s heavy metal until my GF showed me Disturbed and Scar Symmetry a few years ago!
It opened my eyes to the "newer" bands (for me). Symphony X for example. The bands that plays drop D and DropC and B..

I love Mercenary, In Flames, Bullet For My Valentine,

5) And finally GMC! I do not lie and you at GMC with all the lessons Really change my way of thinking music and tone and styles..
I simply love this site and all the hard work that u all do for us! All respect and it has made me play like never before!
And I will not stop playing and looking forward to be a part of this until I can play proper:))

Young or Old doesn't matter: Music has no age - It will live for ever! And thats my history wink.gif

I was brought up on Trad Jazz and English Folk music when I was small. My Dad had been a fairly well-known Jazz Trumpet player (before I was born). My older brother was listening to early Glam stuff like The Sweet, David Bowie etc and then he moved into electronica like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, John Foxx, Gary Numan etc. My friends, on the other hand, were listening to Led Zep, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Rush, Uriah Heep and all that other good stuff!!!
So, to pick only 5 is very difficult! I may put some 'double examples' like........
1. Sex Pistols/Ramones
2. Nazareth
3. Eric Clapton
4. Bob Marley
5. All 50's Rock 'n' Roll (Jerry Lee, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran etc) This is what I first learned to play on guitar!!

I thank this varied musical upbringing for the fact that I now appreciate all kinds of music from all around the world!!

My dad was also a pro jazz trumpet (and acoustic bass) player. Jazz and 'show' tunes were probably my earliest listening and learning. Because he also played piano he also taught me to 'jam' a little.
I also had an older cousin who came to live with us for 6 months. He played blues and rock guitar. I got my first experience with a tube amp then ... I touched a beautifully orange glowing 6L6 - OUCH! I was hooked ever since.

Neil, that's very true man. Musical diversity was a thing that predominated in my home as well. I mentioned this fact here a lot of times: My mom and dad are responsible for my early musical upbringing smile.gif Thank you mom and dad!
