I would like to add Gustavo Santaolalla to this thread...

He is an Argentinian musician, producer and composer and h has won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score in two consecutive years, for Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and Babel in 2006.

He is so famous here for being one of the most important latinoamerican producers. Some of his productions are: (Los Prisioneros, Café Tacuba, Divididos, Molotov, Julieta Venegas, Juanes, Jorge Drexler, Bersuit Vergarabat, Fobia, Árbol, Caifanes, Maldita Vecindad).

Amores perros (2000)
The Insider (1999) - features his song, "Iguazu".
21 Grams (2003)
Salinas grandes (2004) (TV)

Harry Gregson-Williams. The soundtracks to Metal Gear Solid are mindblowing

Nobuo Uematsu, don't really need to say more.


Normand Corbeil, Heavy Rain has probably one of the most striking soundtracks, period.


Akira Yamaoka, one of the only people who can make music that can disturb you, and mystify you simultaneously. Brilliant mind.

Apart from the obvious ones like Williams, Zimmer, Shore, et al, there are some other greats IMO.....

John Murphy's score for Sunshine, especially the theme:



...and Paul Haslinger's OST for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Here's one of the tracks....



Both of these guys have influenced me more than any of the big name composers.
