Do your practice to achieve long or short term rewards? If you ever get stuck in your practicing - you might consider lowering the bar for some time and just play things that are fun to you - that give you a short term reward. Perhaps learn a new song, a simple riff, jam over a backing track?

I know very well how it feels to just practice and at the end of the day, when you draw the line, you are not really feeling the progress smile.gif Why not try some fun stuff, especially if it includes things you are practicing in it wink.gif What's your approach?

I tend to try and notice what scale something is in that I'm practicing which then leads me to kinda make up other little licks that are in the scale in between and exercise. Not only does it break the monotony it kinda helps put everything in a more musical sense and if its a lick your practicing you also learn how you can improvise with it and if its a technique you can immediately try and incorporate that new technique.

There is one draw back, you can get carried away and not actually get back to the exercise but the way I see it. any time your playing the instrument its practice.

On the learning songs bit. I almost never long complete songs. Pretty much learn the bits I like so I can use those tools in my own playing but I always liked making my own stuff. Why paint a painting thats already been painted.
