Maybe they got inspired by the Vertex wah incident?
I am happy to already own the duet, for this new price I might have chosen a different path (although i am happy with the interface). |

It looks like it is actually being sold with ProTools 11 as well. So that makes way more sense. As the Duet is what like $500 and ProTools is $600? -------------------- Guitars:
Ibanez S770PB (Natural Flat) , Ibanez XPT700 (Chameleon) , Sterling J Richardson Signature , Squire IV Jazz Bass (Sunburst) Gear: Neural DSP Plugins My YouTube Page. |

Seems a bit steep IMHO. WHen they bundle software in, they will usually chop it down a bit. Seems like they are trying to charge list.

1) it's Avid so not a lot of discounting.
2) Avid is in bad financial shape. Delisted from Nasdaq and their stock is down 85% from it's height in 2004. *I'm sure it will 'street' for less. This post has been edited by klasaine: Sep 12 2014, 02:45 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

There are reasons why PT is often mocked as 'Pro Fools' in the industry...
For a long time part of the strategic policy at the Beeb has been about 'value for money'(VfM) with regard to production costs. I can't speak for video but with regard to audio the Beeb are always a bit interesting in hardware and software choices. The Beeb likes sadie and has used it for years and the current preferred daw is the full blown version of sadie. The Beeb pay for x number of end user licenses on a typical corporate deal with sadie in line with this and it is there for use on major productions; low budget/profile productions are expected to use a different daw as sadie is kind of regard as 'overkill' for a small production. It may well be that the Beeb has decided that the cost of x number of Avid end user licenses for all video is too much and so either restricts Avid to a limited number of high profile/budget, or has dumped it entirely. Essentially it's no longer viewed as providing sufficent 'VfM' to justify its continued use over any other platform. Whilst FCPX may have teething issues it delivers better VfM than Avid... -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
