Well I joined this site towards the end of May after seeing ads at UG but I haven't spoken much here on the forums so I decided to break out of my shell and introduce myself.
I started playing guitar in December, mainly because my friends who played influenced/convinced me to start. After borrowing one of their guitars and playing for about a month I realized what I was getting into and finally bought my own. I started out practicing scales without knowing anything about them or what they were doing for me and learned some basic chords (also played around with some songs I liked) but it wasn't until I found this site a little over a month ago and started seriously practicing. Since I joined I dont think there has been a day I haven't practiced and I hope to continue that. It's amazing how much I feel I've improved in such a small amount of time.
Anyway, I live in Long Island, NY (not too far from where the Satch grew up!). And I'm into a wide variety of music, depends on the mood I'm in. One day I might be listening to some Metallica and maybe some Neil Young the next day.
