Practice vibrato on every fret, every string, until you work your way out the whole fretboard. Off course practice one or even half string at a time. Practice it with ALL of your fingers, start slowly and watch out for your pitch when bending. Then gradually increase speed and be sure not to get pain in your hands. If that happens, stop, rest and carry on later.

Before doing a vibrato you have to figure out in your head what sound do you want, then go for it, but this is the propper order.
You must use your wrist to bend (must grab the fretboard like a baseball bat helping yourself with the placement of the tumb) and the fingers to press gently the srtings but keep them without slipping. Don´t over press it´s unhealthy. You can bend more easy with higher frets and more plain fretboard radios (heavy metal jacksons with jumbo freets are great. I know there are four diferent kinds of vibrato. bending or vertical, classical or horizontal, a mix of the two then you make like a circle motion (horizontal and vertical) like does E Clapton or Steve Vai in the song for the love of god. Zack wild style, atack the string with the pick down really close to your freeting hand and at the same time bend, theextra resistance created provide crazy and powerful bend atack. And five: crazy horizontal atack, press a note and go down a fret and come back very fast, do it slow and thats ont going to work, go faster and you get a trim go real fast and you get it. Theres a tune called guitar sucks by Ron Thal that use it atthe end of the phrases. Check this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y93cRIAj0gk at 6:52 (sorry its very long) |
