Open E is pretty common for slide guitar.

Duane Allman always tuned to open E when he played slide

The guys name is John tuggle and he is a great slide and blues player, I kind of subscribe to his site (for the free lessons laugh.gif) but I think his approach is very good to slide blues.
I would try open G tuning as well as i find it has a bit more scope in blues, certainly Robert Johnson used it a lot.
