I thought I'd share this with you as it's getting quite exiting!

About 2 years ago I started a youtube account. One of my videos started to do quite well and youtube asked my to become a partner and monetise my videos with adsense.
I did this and started to receive a very low income from this. However over the last year I've been posting new videos and have purchased software to do my own animation. I now have over 80 videos and have a daily income of more than £20, and it's rising by about 10% each month.

If you think you can make compelling videos and have time to invest in exploring the system then it's worth having a go.
1. Think of a topic you are passionate about, and something you can make videos on - for example 'how to make cards'
2. Go to google keyword tool and do a word search on 'make cards' or what ever your passion is. This will bring up lots of phrases that contain make cards. Spend alot of time thining about your topic, it needs to be profitable and you don't want to get fed up of it in 6 months.
3. Sort this by Global monthly searches and choose phrases with a medium or low competion. These are phases that are easier to rank high on google with that the 'high competition' ones
4. Open your youtube channel and name it something relevent like 'how to make cards for free' or perhaps something more original!
5. Start to make really good quality videos using the best keyword phrases fron your google keyword search. For example 'how to make pop up cards' 'how to make valentines cards'. Make sure you are not infringing any copyright and you have permission to use the content of videos if you don't own it. For each video make sure you name it with the keyword, use it in the title, and also in the description and the tags box. Write a good amount in the description box.
6. Support your youtube channel with facebook and twitter. Lots of social media and building relationships with people (actually I haven't done this bit yet!!)
7. Like other peoples channels and videos. You need to get lots of subscribers to your chanel. you get this by providing quality content that people want to see
8. Apply to become a youtube partner and to monetise your videos (all info is on youtube under creator and partners) - you will need an adsense account
9. Keep creating great videos and increasing your audience

This is not a get rich quick scheme by any means. But has proved a fun way to earn a part time income for me, and the best bit of it is that while I go to work in a 'proper job' the pennies roll in by the minute 24/7.

Adsense, for those who don't know, is the google program responsible for the annoying adverts on youtube videos! When ever any-one clicks on the advert (and no you can't click on your own) you are paid a small amount per click depending on how much the advertiser is paying for the advert to be there. Some catergories and keywords pay more than others.

You need to be carefull choosing your subject, it needs to be something that you can make lots of videos about and that people will want to watch. It's also helpful to write about a topic or words that advertisers will want to associate with.

Anyway I though I'd put my tuppence in. It's all part of my grand master plan for a very comfortable retirement!

Thanx for sharing. even if this YT income might not be impressive, it still can bring some useful money when You don't even expect smile.gif I tried this and have to say You really have to make a catchy topic of the channel to get visible profits of those YT advertisments

Money is money!

Let me ask this ...
How many views did the video receive before youtube/adsense asked to partner?
Does one have to allow the ads to be enabled from the beginning to even be noticed by youtube/adsense?

This is very interesting stuff mate. I still have to investigate this because I monetized my youtube channels but I have never seen any money generated. I found an article shared at this thread about Youtube:

While creating my blog (although I wasn't thinking about it) I got curious and read some local forums on adsense income.

Its a bit detailed as how you're paid, what I remember was like if someone from a 3.rd world country clicks an add you get 1 cent but if its from Japan or USA you get 4 cents...they also mentioned even if someone devotes himself money doesn't flow very fast, so plans should be made for the long run or in a hobbist way.

Great post!! smile.gif This details pretty much everything you need to proceed towards becoming a partner and generating revenue. 20 pounds a month (about $30 U.S.) is actually quite impressive. Generating money is quite difficult given that you need hundreds of thousands of views to generate any appreciable income at all from a vid. And of those views, many need to be click views (they need to click on an advert) so it's usually a matter getting enormous view counts and hoping that one viewer per X number will click on an advert.

This may seem like a TON of work for very little money, BUT, youtube is just one of the "AVENUES OF REVENUE" that one must put together as part of an overall strategy. Penetration of social media is global. Being in front of people means being involved in youtube/facebook/twitter, just so that folks can discover what your trying to share (music/etc.)

ANY income from your youtube vids is pure gravy and a wonderful thing smile.gif I usually take all of the income generated by my vids and use it to promote posts on facebook. So "reinvesting" as it were smile.gif You may have noticed that unless you pay to promote a give post on facebook that it doesn't gain much traction as facebook puts paid posts at the top of everyones feed and thus motivates people to spend. Also, if your "likes" count has stalled on facebook, promoting posts is one way to increase it as it will reach people outside your circle.

All of this is essentially about trying to gain 'CRITICAL MASS" or enough awareness about your project/product/music etc. that you can create demand for whatever it is your pitching. This used to take the resources of a major record label but now people can do it on their own smile.gif
