Today's going to be a sweet day for me; my dad agreed to take me down to Guitar Center! Don't laugh, some of you may take your guitar stores for granted! I live out in the country, so this Guitar Center is 2 hours away from me (full tank of gas there and back)
. Now, I'm perfectly capable of driving myself, but when I bug my dad enough to do it, we take his truck (in other words I don't pay a dime for gas
).
So since this is a pretty rare opportunity for myself, I need to take some of my fellow GMC'ers suggestions...
I'm looking for a new (metal) guitar, that features everything I'd ever need. I'm not the type to buy a guitar along with 3 nice PU's to immediately replace whatever is stock in it; I want something nice right out of the box. With this in mind, I've been looking at the Ibanez Prestige line (specifically the 2550e and the 1570 prestige). Their prestiges usually come equipped with either Dimarzio's, or the vintage Ibanez stock which I hear are excellent. Not to mention the edge pro and the fast neck....
Although I believe Ibanez to make a great guitar, I haven't gone total tunnel visioned on a Prestige. I've also been looking at Schecter's with the Floyd Rose. Most of these either have EMG's or Duncans. Can anyone tell me about EMG or Duncan? Also, what is the difference between active and passive pickups? Doesn't an active PU require batteries?
Also, any other guitars you guys think I should pick up and play...remember, I want a metal guitar to expand my arsenal. I already own a Mexican standard strat and a G&L climax, both being good for rock, jazz, and blues, but hardly enough "balls to the wall" ooomph for metal!
While I'm at it, do you guys got any good bargaining techniques you use when you buy a guitar from a shop? I don't want to come home with a guitar feeling ashamed that I paid what was on the tag
Thanks for any help
