First, welcome to GMC, Lienad! smile.gif

I find the video chats very helpful. I tend to get distracted while practicing & being focused on a particular technique for 1 to 2 hours with an instructor is incredibly helpful. I also enjoy the interaction among the other members during the chats.

When picking lessons to work on, it is too easy to get distracted by new lessons & then start adding more lessons into your practice routine. I think it's best to pick no more than 3 to 5 to work on at a time. With so many lessons on the site, it is way too easy to say "Wow, that one is cool, too!" And then neglecting the other lessons you were working on.

Try to make notes, either on your computer while practicing or a paper practice journal to make notes in. You won't remember the bpm you got up to yesterday (or the last day you practiced) so it is helpful to have it written down so you can measure your success. It also helps keep you stay focused on the current lessons you are working on. Also write down your goals. It may seem silly but will definitely help. For some reason, when you actually write it down, it really does make a difference.

Once you feel you have a good effort on a lesson, submit a REC take. The instructors do their best to help you but will have a much better understanding of how to help if they see & hear your playing.

Use the scale generator to learn new scales & is also a great tool for improvisation.

Don't forget to check out GMC's Guitar Wiki. Tons of info there. Also, on the Home page next to "Featured Content" you'll see the ">> More" button. Be sure to check out all the resources in there.

Use the forum (I know you already have). Any questions you have will quickly be answered by the instructors as well as the many talented members here. Before posting a question, use the search bar. You may find someone has asked the same/similar question in the past & revive an old but useful thread (something I love to do! wink.gif )

In the time I've been here, I'm still finding new stuff.

I'm sure there are other ideas but those are the quick ones off the top of my head. smile.gif

Edit: Oh yeah, I can't believe I left out the Mentoring program. Actual one-on-one help from any instructor with specific instruction directed at meeting your personal goals. That's getting private instruction at no extra cost.

Hey mate smile.gif Exploring, is what I'd recommend! Take your time to get around the site and things will be revealed. Also, write in the forums and once you'll get familiar with everyone around here, it's gonna be even easier wink.gif
