Hello Everyone!, New guitarist!

I'm a 17 year old boy from Norway and made this account many month ago, I started to play abit, but then my tuner got stolen :-( And I didn't buy a new one until now But now I'm really up for some playing again! I aint so good yet, very bad to be honest :-/ But I'll get better I hope Atm I'm warming up with Fur else hehe I love that tune! For about two years ago, I started in a guitar class I the lesson was 30 min each wednessday At the start, I liked it, it was cool But, after a while, I really droped off.. The songs got boring, the grip (or what it's called) started to be difficult, and I quited, leaving my new guitar alone in the corner But some day in october, I took it up after hearing a damn cool solo from Eddie Van Halen I started to train on Metallica - Nothing else matters, but it got too complicated hehe I searched the net to find some more tabs to practice, when I finally came over this page It look really interesting, and I thought this may be the site I'm looking for! And it really seems so, I love to hear on the lessons that you guys put here, but my new problems is, I don't have a El-guitar :-( Only an acoustic one, but it's cool to play anyway! But I really love the el-guitar sound, and really want one! My favorit song is 18 and life with Skid Row The guitar solo is so to fall in love with! Can I get some advice for my "warmup" here? A few easy (not too easy) song that I can play and learn without getting bored? :-) Would be so greatfull for any other advice too! Choose really easy songs that you like so maybe Metallica - Enter Sandman (excluding solo for now) or Paranoid by Black Sabbath. The usual easy ones. At the same time try and balance it by playing to a metronome (www.metronomeonline.com) a few of the lessons that Kris has done in the 101 series and practice them up to speed with a metronome. Even if you do 30 mins on them a day you'll notice a change after a few weeks in ability but make sure you learn some songs to keep you interested. Try and split your time 1/3 Technique 1/3 Theory and 1/3 Songs By Bands You Like incorporating techniques and theory you learn. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. You can find some pretty interesting theory stuff on Andrew's theory board. Lots of useful information about music theory there. Also try to practice everything with a metronome from the start. Don't worry, you don't have to practice a lot, just practice up the tempo whenever you can cause it will make you a better player for sure. ALso learn some famous easy songs, but not too much, try to learn only chords of easy songs, like House of the Rising Sun form Animals, and Metallica's Nothing else matters. Don't worry too much about tabs right now, just focus on these techniques and make a plan what you will learn so you can systematically approach to the learning process. Playing just exercises will get you bored, while just learning new songs will not make you evolve as fast as you can and in the end that brings your motivation down. So, just try to balance exercising and learning the songs you really like. Try to learn the easiest parts of the songs you like. My 1st bit of advice would be to get back into that weekly guitar lesson. I've noticed that no matter what I try to do here on GMC I would be lost without the foundation I'm getting with my weekly guitar lesson. I assume yours are something lke mine where you learn the notes, strings a few easy songs then as you improve your lessons become more interesting? If your instructor is like mine he/she does not allow their students to waste their time and they expect the student to practice and at least try to get better as time goes on? My instructor actually fires his students after a period of time when the student is not trying to make any progress and only wants to learn the same parts of the same songs over and over again. Second part of my advice is to practice as much as you can at least three or more days a week. It's better to practice for one hour every day then to practice for four hours two days a week. Make your practices interesting, practice what you learn in class, practice alternate picking, chords both open and barre, runs, riffs, songs, licks etc. make sure to always practice using a metronome. Last part of my advice to you is to have fun, remember most of all that you are playing the guitar because you want to. Remember to not put too much pressure on yourself or set ungodly goals. Everything will come with time and practice, just stick to it and before you know it you will be playing like the best. Good Luck and I hope to see you around.
