In Serbia we also study the system that's based on DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI DO or C D E F G A H C. All the sharps are spoken with IS (cis dis etc) and all the flats are wiith ES (ces des es etc).
Ok , now I learned this system since I was 12 and I knew everything around it - how to create chords as well as how to relate intervals. It also helped that I knew how to read tabs and found music online so that got me into B and Bb.
Now the real problem for me occurred when I went to Berklee! They are using B and Bb as well as TI instead of SI !
This was such a hard thing man especially in solfege and ear training classes ! I was required to sing using C D E F G A B C as well as DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO . It was very hard at the beginning but I managed somehow to overcome that problem by practicing every day singing melodies and transcribing using TI instead of SI or TE instead of B
Its crazy stuff but I realized one thing and that is following - its only hard when you have to do the singing, when it comes to playing music its very easy system to implement.
I will just add the obvious following thing which is B is same as H as well as Bb same as B
When it comes to chord notation there is no universal notation even nowdays!
Order Mark Levine's Jazz Theory Book and you will see how many different notation suggestions are there in music for particular chord.
For major you can use - MAJ, M, (just the letter name), Major
For major 7 you can use - Maj7, M7, Major7, triangle sign + 7 etc
So many possibilities but don't worry about that! You should learn them and know what they are - you don't have to use all of them - pick one system and stick to it !
I like using Maj7 for major7 or Min7 for minor 7 or Min7b5 for minor 7b5 or Dim7 for diminished 7 or just 7 if its dominant 7 chord. I found these to be very easy to recognize and read and there is no way you wouldn't understand that kind of chord labeling.
