If you use reaper, you can get wads of great plugins for free and you can use the tons of free plugins that come pre built inside of reaper. All without spending your hard earned cash. Here are some of the best

QUESTION: Do you have a favorite FREE plugin you’d like to share?

B.O.D. BASS OVERDRIVE DISTORTION.
It’s based on a pedal by sansamp. The original sansamp pedal had a sweepable Mid range eq which this one does not have. However, odds are you have E.Q. plugins that can handle that part of it. This is a great plugin to add to a bass track that needs a bit more “Zest”. It can drive a bass guitar from a growl to a fuzz. It sports a 3 band E.Q. and a blend knob for mixing how much zest you want in with your original signal.

The SATAN VERB.
This is a very solid reverb plugin that sounds very good. This reverb is coded by one guy. He has various plugins available. This is one of his best efforts. Works great on vocals, and works on just about everything. This plugin format, used on the satav verb is proprietary to reaper. So this plugin won’t work on any other DAW. The plugin has a variety of features not found on many free reverbs such as low/high pass filters and distortion. It opens up a lot of sonic possibilities.

Stillwell EVENT HORIZON.
This is a limiter plugin that is built in to REAPER! So if you install Reaper, you already have this plugin. It’s not a pretty plugin. It looks like many of the native reaper plugins which is to say a bit like a blank canvas. It’s very easy to use as it’s only got 3 main controls. It works well on any master bus and does a great job as a quick master limiter to keep your main bus from overheating. Even if you are new to using a limiter, it’s very simple to use and you can just trust your ears.

The LOUD MAX.

It’s also a limiter and is also free. Also, it is very very easy to use. Just a couple of sliders and you can start getting your mix output to be a bit louder. I’m not trying to encourage a volume war here, just sharing some tools of the trade. It’s easy to over do it and end up with a mix that sounds squashed and flat so use your master limiter with care.

The HEAVY LEAD 5150.
It’s a very good simulation of the classic high gain Peavey 5150 amp that is featured on more songs that can be counted. The deep saturation and grind of this amp is legendary and for good reason. It’s one of the meanest sounding amps ever built. If you want to try to re amp your original dry recorded signal, this is a handy way to go about it without the need to actually buy and tote an amp to your home studio. Pair this with your fave cab simulator of choice and you can get some great heavy guitar tones. It’s based on the RED channel (lead channel) so it’s high gain or go home.

The TOKYO DAWN FEEDBACK COMPRESSOR.
This is a great compressor for just about anywhere you’d use a compressor. It makes a great bus compressor and works on drums, bass, etc. It it not like your standard compressor in that it uses the output of the track feeding it instead of using the “look ahead” approach of many modern compressors. The result is a very musical compression that isn’t harsh or hard on the ears. You could spend a lot of money trying to find a better one, but you don’t have to as this one is free smile.gif

Very cool!! I think that should be a part of the list!!!

SUPER MASSIVE REVERB:

Thanks to steve for sharing this one! Used by Devin Townsend among others, this reverb sounds HUGE and retains a musical feel. It uses a "warp" knob to create unique reverb textures. It also has a LFO modulator which gives a sort of flange quality to the reverb. It combines delay control with reverb control resulting in a very flexible plugin. It's a killer sounding reverb and it's free!!
