Hey everyone,

So I've been looking for a lute. I live in Toronto and have found some manufacturers, but their costs are $5000 and up. I'm not looking for anything special at this point as I've never even played one.

I've found some on ebay, but since I've never played one and can't find any stores that actually sell them, I'm not really sure how to go about buying one.

Here is one that I found that is probably around the price I'm going to be willing to pay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/7-COURSE-ROSEWOOD-T...=item519d9725fe

and that is a cheaper version of a more expensive type like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RENAISSANCE-LUTE-Ha...=item4aaceda2eb

I've never bought an instrument on the internet before. Anyone have any tips? Has anyone even played a lute before and could help me out? I'm trying to avoid spending $600 on something that is the equivalent of a $100 beginner guitar.

Any advice will help! Also, if you're interested in why I want to play a lute, I was inspired by Kvothe from the book series Kingkiller Chronicle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Name_of_the_Wind). I highly recommend reading this if anyone is interested in fantasy or science (it kind of combines both in an epic story).

Thanks!
