I've watched some of the alternate picking lessons, and have also heard it mentioned in other lessons as well... From my understanding "Cheating" seems to be when you break the up/down pattern no matter what you are doing My question is... if you are alt picking the 6th string and end on a down stroke, is another downstroke right after on the 5th string referred to as "cheating?" My picking range is so small that my downstroke on the 6th string still ends well above the 5th string, so moving my hand down even more just to do an upstroke seems almost counterproductive and very unnatural for me... I can do it when thinking hard about it, but if I put my attention to something else, like trying to alt pick 16th notes to a metronome, I can't seem to pick up down (6th) up down (5th) So, is this actually cheating? And if it is, I'm guessing it's something I should fix ASAP, or perhaps it's not that big of an issue, if I can still keep timing? Its actually called "Economy Picking" and some people swear by it, others disagree - there are a lot of threads on the forum about it if you do a search. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
