A lot of the things I believe about soloing, Satch says here in this video better than I can..
For example, it's all good to be able to put nice, neat little licks exactly in line, correct number of notes to a beat etc - but you have to know how to break out of that and flow. If you listen to Joe's legato lines on his most famous tracks - how much of that is sliding all over the beat. Imagine trying to tab that out !?! Like he says in the video, most famous solos he can think of had this flow.. the type of thing you can't tab out 100% because it's about feel.
You can also see him talk about bending the bluesy bends.. not quite a full maj3rd or min3rd. It's like a cool bend that's somewhere between the two and full of attitude.
Pick articulation. Sometimes it's just really satisfying to hear a perfectly picked run like MAB etc.. but if everything is like that then it sounds too uniform.. Joe says it better so watch the vid !
