"for The Love Of God" Tone Question

Any tips for nailing that amazing tone in For the Love of God by Steve Vai? I know that it would help immensely if I had a Jem, but that's not going to happen for a long time, I think... sad.gif
Anyways, as your can see in my signature, I have a Schecter C-1 Classic with stock pickups, which are Seymour Duncans, the SH-4 and the SH-2n, and a Boss GT-8... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there!
Im not a Steve Vai expert, but id say the fabulous Jem is only part of the equasion when it comes to his tone. (please guys correct me if im wrong). I know Steve uses an assortment of pedals, Distorion, Overdrive and countless others. He probably also uses a state of the art effects processor too! and some fabulous amps.

Let us not forget that a huge part of tone comes from the cleanness of playing as well -

Hi Zephyr,
as you have a GT8 have a look at this forum . There's probably a patch on there somewhere (might have to do a search for it and info on how to download it to your GT8.

Cheers,
Tony

I think he uses Treadplate sound with more compressor on it than gain, and a bit delay/reverb effect.. i came very close to his sound with my POD2

I think he didn't play Carvin at that time tho, maybe I'm wrong.
You probably need same gear as he had in studio but his hands and mind too.
Joking. smile.gif

There's not so much drive/gain,lot of sustain, bit of reverb and delay...
You need humbucker for that as well.
