For those of you who haven't yet come across it you may want to take a look at Spotify.

It's a legal music streaming site that launched in Europe this week but not the USA/Latin Americas/Canada yet (though there are some ways to get it there). More info here. It is pretty good - certainly one of the best that I've come across.

It's quite nice as a tool to check out new bands etc, but the severe lack of music nowadays is really disheartening.

I think it was completely free during the Beta test. Now it's 99 SEK a month unless you get an invitation.

If someone wants to invite me, please do wink.gif

Yes, I pushed for Spotify some months ago here on GMC. I've been using it for half a year. It's great.

There are three ways to get it.
Buy a Premium account, 99 SEK a month.
Buy one day, 9 SEK a day.
Then there is a "free" version with commercial spots now and then.

The free version is "beta" (not the software, the subscription is in beta) and you need an invite for this.
This week they open up the free subscription for everyone in GB so you can get an account there, or if you know how to use a proxy and find one that works with Spotify.

If you are lucky (or buy Premium) you will get invites to share with your friends.

A tip is to register a free account as "Female". Every woman I've invited has got 5 invites to share. When I registered my first account I got two and none on my other male accounts. You can change gender whenever you want, but register as a female and leave it for a few days. (Nice feature irl tongue.gif )

I still have a few invites left.

BTW, they have done promotions in different countries and with some ISPs with free accounts for everyone before. Some months ago they had it open for a week in GB.

I add some more info tongue.gif
They don't have all labels, or even all artists from each label. Some big artists are missing like Metallica (who could have guessed?), AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles ... but there's is plenty anyway.

Two weeks ago they cleaned out lots of music that wasn't covered by their license and this week they are adding 1 million new tracks. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=psn...2itvOymHIG4sWPw

You can make playlists and share with your friends . You can make collaborative playlists that others can edit too. That's really fun smile.gif

Yeah, Spotify rules. I think this is the first real program where you can be legal and still get the music you want when you want it. Artists do get payed and you get to search music in high quality sound.

I will defenitly pay 99SEK (under 10 dollars) a month for this just to support the idea.

I'm lost. Does it have all styles on there? Like bands like Kraftwerk, Townes Van Zandt, Mahavishnu Orchestra?

What's the difference between this and LastFM? Can you listen to whatever song you want when you want?

This is more like a big music library where you can broswe and choose, instead of just listening to recommendations or artists similar to something or with some tag, etc. So yes, you can listen to whatever song you want when you want.
