Hi Benny!
Your playing is always very pleasant to my ears. At this moment your take it's more a kind of a draft but is very promising. Now, because you have already got used with all the notes and positions, you can start focusing on details. First of all, please, when you make a video, try to capture on the camera, your both hands. In this way, we can give you more complex feedback. You already pointed out about fast licks, so I will skip this subject. Be careful at the length of the notes. You tend to play some notes longer than they are (as an example: 0:36; 0:56, etc). Also, listen to each section and see how long the final slide from a phrase is played. Try to notice where you have pauses between phrases and try to respect all these things. You need to review the tab a little. You played some wrong notes (0:20; 0:46; 1:03; 1;09; 1:19). 0:14 - in this spot, you should play a pinch harmonic. 0:34; 1:06; 1:08 - I noticed that you never use the raking technique in your takes. Look, the raking is used to add a little percussive spice to the notes. Adding this tool, you can make a note to stand out and your playing will be more expressive. It's not hard to achieve this technique. All you need to do is to mute the strings of the guitar with the fretting hand and pick the muted strings in succession (like a sweep) until you reach the string that should be played. Kris explained this technique perfectly. Take a look at his video ("Raking definition"): https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/search/raking/ 0:40 - you went with the slide on a wrong note. Also, you need to play this faster because it's not a normal slide, it's more a kind of an ornament. 0:47 - after the bend, play that note straight (no vibrato) and shorter to give the same flavor as Guido. 1:00 - you added a note 1:09 - this part sounds too square. Avoid adding more notes and bends. On this phrase you need to play only two bends. Keep in mind that any note added (or played longer/shorter) will change the lick rhythmically. 1:11 - 1:14 - this typical blues lick is not played in a good way. Be careful at the length of the last 3 notes and how they are played (pay attention to the rhythm). 1:20 - use the whammy bar on the last note. As general advice, try to control the string noises better. I'm sure you can manage all the details that I pointed out above. Today, you get a 6 from me. The Lydian is a wonderful scale for expressive soloing. This lesson will provide you with a wealth of licks that you can take with you and use to create your own music, solos, etc. So every note you learn during rec will provide you with a stockpile of things to pull from as you advance. |

Hello again mate!
I like that along with the DT-style rhythm lesson you're working on this solo that forces you to combine melodies, blues licks and some shred. In this case I notice that it complicates you a bit when you have to play those fast alternate picking passages in John Petrucci style. Again I recommend an intensive work of Alternate Picking. (Let me know if you need help with that!) Beyond that, I think that the melodic parts are on the right track and that you just need to keep listening to the original lesson to take in elements of dynamics, vibrato and phrasing that Guido uses to give it the necessary feel. I think Monica has pinpointed for you the licks and phrases that need special attention. I would just like to add that it would be interesting if in addition to practicing the lesson, you spend some time experimenting with this scale mode on backing.
