Linear Shred Zone, Lesson By Ben Higgins |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Linear Shred Zone by Ben Higgins
Here is my last REC. A very good lesson for alternate picking practice. |

Cool,
It seems to me you are very focused on clean execution on the fast runs here, which is obviously the focus of the lesson. I think that as a whole you do convey great energy here, though your playing might be a little rough around the edges. Your speed picking has great attack and tone, and this likely comes from the (excessive!) arm movement you are using. Compare your right hand with Ben's and you will see he uses much a much smaller picking movement. As much as I like the sound of this type of picking, this big arm movement has several drawbacks: it will cause fatigue/tension and it is not very precise and prone to accidentally hitting other strings (though this not as much of a problem if you are just speedpicking on one string). To my ears your hands sound pretty synced for most part. But I do feel like the beginning and ending of the fast runs are a little shaky timing wise, this again is most likely due to the massive tension your need to apply for the big arm movement. Switching that amount of tension on/off is not easy. In this lesson I explain all the different movement used when picking: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/How-To...ernate-Picking/ Your phrasing in the slow parts do not catch all of Ben's nuances but I still think it's a musical take. Keep up the great work - you get a 7 from me! |

Hi, friend!
It's true that this lesson is excellent for practicing alternate picking! And you do it very well. I think there are just a few details in terms of tempo and synchronization of hands. Of course, you're reaching your limits at this tempo, but I think you're already very close to being able to play this tempo accurately. The sound of your alternate picking is very good, it sounds warm and clear when the hands are synchronized (which is most of the time). It's best to slow the tempo down a bit and make sure both hands are playing accurately and the tempo is tight, and then slowly work your way up to the normal lesson tempo. Practice daily and in a short time you'll be able to do it. Many greetings. -------------------- My lessons
