Since I realized that I never will be a happy owner of a 64' Strat again, unless I win the lottery or starts a guitar site on the internet tongue.gif , I need some advices from You guys. What I wanna to do now is to build a replica instead, since I think even Fenders copies of their own models are far too expensive. (i mean the Custom Shops) Where can I find parts, wood etc. to build a top-notch copy?

TIA

I don't have a clue on where to buy top notch wood, but...
If I wanted some quality resonating wood, I'd contact a Custom builder (Nik Huber, Ken Lawrence etc.),
and ask them if they could help you out. Either by pointing you in the right direction or selling you some pieces of great wood they already have smile.gif

I mean wood already figured out, Im not going to do the sawing myself. I dont think they used any special wood in the sixties, I think it was some simple Ash they found cheap on the market. Im not going for exclusive hardwood or something, just the same wood as they used back then.

I have used warmoth in the past and they were really good. I was a bit worried as I am in the UK, so dealing with a US company from overseas was a bit difficult, but the quality of the work was great.

I'll add another vote for using Warmoth!!
I've built quite a few instruments (not just Strats) using their Bodies and/or Necks and can say that I've NEVER been disappointed with either the products or their service!!!

Dunno, I would consider getting G&L Strat and then upgrading the nut and some little bits. Those guitars are bigger Strats than Fender's.

Warmoth is great. I built my strat copy from Warmoth parts. I don't know if you can get exact replica of a 64, but there are lots of options to choose from. Prices are not too cheap, but the parts are first rate.

Can you clarify what you mean a bit here Ivan? Just curious, I have been keeping an eye on warmoth for a long time for when I build my ideal guitar. G&Ls are also very nice too though.

You should check out Wilburn Custom Shop also, they are top notch. They will make you a "Staffay Signature Model!" and they welcome international sales.

I'm just saying that if you wanna make a Strat G&L Legacy's are awesome bang for buck, I've heard nothing but positive comments, it's relatively small company and they are doing it right. Legacy's that can be found for ~1200$ are really good Strat guitars, many people say they are much better then Fender ones. Some people complain about plastic nut, but that can be replaced easily. Also there are many custom models available, and they make them properly based on what I was reading.

If you want to build then the Edenhaus link is great, as well as The reranch site
http://home.flash.net/~guitars/gallery.html
Building is a great project, and a labor of love! So if that's what you want... then you can grab the exact strat body you want from edenhaus, 50's 60's 70's... alder, ash, you name it...wood finish or in exact fender and gibson colors (edenhaus supplies Fender with their bodies). For a price they will match any color you like huh.gif Necks in every sice and shape. they can build one too, but it will cost a bit. however,if you don't want to spend too much or if you don't want to go through the Fender Custom Shop, look at all of their non-custom shop models. They have some that are not too expensive but have vintage bodies and parts. I bought the 09 artist series that has a 60's body ,vintage tremelo, vintage tuners, Brass nut, oversized headstock (late 60's and early 70's) in Sonic Blue....blah blah for $1,300.00 The price has since gone up but what a Great instrument!

So you can build one but it might cost you as much as one already made (yet you do all the work)... and Fender has a lot of different guitars out there, many of them built to vintage specs, that may be in your price range. cool.gif it's worth a look...
