https://www.thomann.de/ie/ibanez_rg655m_cbm...ef=search_prv_3 Pros - Prestige, Ibanez Edge, Maple neck, classic dimarzio HSH pickup set, hard case Cons - Most expensive of the 3, I'd quite like an RG without a pickguard. Pros - No pickguard, cool finish, classic dimarzio HSH pickup set. Maple fretboardm Stainless Steel Frets Cons - nearly as expensive as the Prestige, Edge II Zero (not as recommended as the orignial edge) https://www.thomann.de/ie/ibanez_rg970wfmz_tfd_premium.htm? Pros - Cheapest of the 3, cool finish, Basswood/maple combination body Cons - Rosewood fretboard, Edge Zero II trem, softcase, IBZ pickup set So I'm going to try yet again to sell my lovely Japanese Les Paul Clone http://www.adverts.ie/electric-guitars/198...l-clone/3952247 This post has been edited by PosterBoy: Feb 18 2017, 11:15 AM -------------------- My SoundCloud

If possible try each of these and go for the one that feels better in your hands. All are really nice, and surely sound great.

Unfortunately in Ireland I won't get the chance, I may have to go and visit my parents in England to try a few out.
I would like to save for one without getting rid of the LP as it does indeed give me more tonal colours to play with, but I will have to up my musical output to justify it. -------------------- My SoundCloud

If I lived in the UK, I'd buy that Burny from you.

It's a really nice guitar I just think I'm a 25.5 scale person. I like it for the compeletely different tonal difference it gives to my Tele and Tyler. I've got a Epiphone Dot that can give me something more middy and warm if I need it though

Yesterday I bought this guitar from my local music shop. A dreamguitar with the famous sustain option.

I've almost got the money together for the RG6PCMLTD
but.... I'm now rethinking the purchase, I've got 4 electric guitars, it won't make me a better player, I still lust over it but maybe I was hoping it would be so much more than just a mere guitar purchase, I can see how shopaholics get into the unhealthy spiral. It's the same with the road bike I want to buy, yes it's much lighter than my gravel bike with better quality gearing etc but it won't make a huge difference to my cycling performance. You can't buy happiness, maybe that's what I was looking for -------------------- My SoundCloud

You can't buy happiness, maybe that's what I was looking for We've all fell into GAS at one point, haven't we? One thing I'm trying at the moment is to only buy new gear as a reward for a (guitar-related) objective that I've reached. It's difficult to stay strong at times but mostly it feels good to work for it than just buying and hoping it will make you better somehow (which it normally doesn't). I've had my eyes on https://www.thomann.de/de/prs_se_zach_myers...+myers_401069_1 for some weeks now but I'm determined to go into the store and play it only once I've reached a certain objective. I'm not even thinking of when I might buy it yet (as hard as it is ) Maybe this approach is worth consideration? And who knows, once you've reached your goal, you might want something totally different? |

I've wanted an RG for quite some time (I blame Todd) and the 2017 range especially the limited edition ones are beautiful. I totally agree with you about setting goals so you feel you've earned the new guitar!

I take full responsibility I can't help but gush a bit as ibby's go You can always try to grab a pawn shop find, or used ibby off the rack, or from the classifieds, etc. Buying used Ibby's can certainly save you wads of money. I buy mostly used intstruments so that the new price has already been paid by someone else
Still some folks want that new car smell and are willing to pay top dollar for it. If you have the money to spare then sure! But if you are trying to budget for a bike/guitar/etc. then maybe a used Ibby might help. I do dig that second option from your first post!! Very spiff axe! Todd I've wanted an RG for quite some time (I blame Todd) and the 2017 range especially the limited edition ones are beautiful. I totally agree with you about setting goals so you feel you've earned the new guitar! That link isn't working for me, but still congrats on NDG! Living in Ireland the options of trying are very limited, I drove the 2.5 hours to Dublin our capital city only to find a couple Gios and a J Custom hanging up.
The Manson guitar shop is in the city near my parents in the UK and they at least had the RG655 in there at Christmas, I wish I'd given it a test drive but time was limited. At the moment (unless I sell the Burny to help fund the RG) I have my Tyler Burning Water which at nearly 4 times the price of the RG will be the standard it has to come close to (unfair I know but they are both superstrats), My Telecaster which has been with me since 1989 and can do Rock, blues and country, My Epiphone Dot for my attempts at Jazz and the Burny LP clone which sounds great for Rock and Punk and looks gorgeous but doesn't get much play time, it doesn't feel comfortable playing it sitting down. So in terms of need I do have my bases well covered, ok I don't have a double locking Trem or HSH configuration, so there is that but mostly I've had an RG itch for about 5 years thanks to Rick Graham, Paul Gilbert, Todd etc and that Premium maybe the last straw!!!!!! -------------------- My SoundCloud
