So, I have a Gibson LP from 76, it the one guitar I have had for the longest time, think I bought it in 1985/6 and for really good price as well. Anyways, I believe its time to refret it, and I guess should... as its a real old retainer. But it seems to be incredibly expensive. Not that I'm cheap but I've gotten prices from about 500-600 euros (600 euro is about 670 Usd) and if I've understood it correctly it the binding on the neck that makes it expensive...

So, I guess I just wanted to get some opinions or a discussion going. Is it really that expensive or am I being had? And I know, the logical answer is if I really like the guitar its worth it, right?

I guess so but hey for that price I could kill some GAS and get a brand new guitar in the 600-700 euro price range, for example one of those LP Tributes which seems really cool. Or a used ESP Eclipse that I wanted for a long time... decisions...

I say that's a bit high.

Average for a neck w/binding here in the states is around $360.00 or £282.00 give or take $40 depending on the reputation and notoriety of the luthier. This should also include a new nut and set-up (action/intonation).

that's roughly what it cost when I had my '90 LP re freted with the binding. The setup he done as well was amazing.

I used to have a 2013 (or 2014) 70s tribute LP. I got rid after a while though. IMO the money would be better spent on a re fret

Google les paul fretless wonder, owners comment the action can be really low on such guitars too.

Its an alternate feel thing which imo could work well with a LP guitar, worth a try as you'll only pay for fret leveling and use the rest of the cash for another guitar

Thanks for the advice... I have found one guy, he's done guitar work well known artists so I am gonna contact him for a price estimation. His webpage says Gibson refret from 300 euro. Up 400e I'll be OK with it, above that and I am not too sure. :/

Well, now I have the prices. If i get it right my Les Paul doesn't have the binding over the frets so the price would be 409 EUR (456 USD) and if I want frets in stainless steel it's 511 EUR (570 USD). Still not sure if I'm getting it done for that price... but a friend of mine knows a luthier so he'll check that guys prices as well and then I'll decide.
