You count as normal triplets 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 but those 16th notes play faster. Two of them is like one 8th note inside the triplet.

Thanks Emir...Much appreciated. Never seen notation like that before. smile.gif

It's used a lot, really.

You see, it's just like how normal and regular notes are grouped together, regardless of their value (as long as it's shorter than a quarter note) - this, just inside triplets. So it's just 16th note triplets and 8th note triplets tied together. If you open up Guitar Pro and write in one 8th note triplet note and then a 16th note triplet, then 8th etc. you will see the same thing.

Steve Vai has an articel where he explains even more weird groupings. I'll see if I can find it.

http://www.vai.com/LittleBlackDots/tempomental.html - there it was smile.gif

As an example, this is even weirder:

It's your beloved 16th note quintuplets, Monte, where the first three notes are played as regular in a quintuplet grouping, but then instead of playing the last two quintuplet notes you play three notes in time of two 16th note quintuplets. This last part should not be confused with a regular 16th note triplet (where you play 3 notes in time of 2, as this is three 16th note quintuplet notes in time of two!)

I think you replied before reading my little addition. Be sure to read it as well smile.gif - it was taken right out of the Vai side though, but explained a little more or better I think, if I may say so. Hahahaha.
