Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner Soloing #2 by Darius Wave

It's my first solo recording experience. i used a neck instead bridge pickups.so we got a softer sound than video.

I worked a little with distortion, so there are noticeable flaws in terms of the expression and vibrato.

Hey there!

I truly enjoy your controlled and focused take over this lesson. Congratulations on your first solo recoprding. I think it was a great choice of lesson not just because it was mine (laughting smile.gif ) but it has been designed to give enough breath between notes, so you could actually focus on precision and essential mechanics of each technique. I can forgive you using different pickup position because in this particular lesson it is not a critical thing but keep in mind to be carefull in the future because some lessons require to use exact same posiion because of it's articulation response - for example palm muting and pinch harmonics that work fine on the bridge position.

I have a lot of good thoughts watching both of your hands. There are audiable pitch issues but I think it referes to more practise needed - more time to get used to how to make a bend get in pitch faster. It's visible you can hear the pitch and you get it right at many notes but to precise - it takes most of the note time for you to get it right, while we need to make it in tune "on the first hit"
Be aware to not chnage your hand mechanics - these will lead your right to the place you want - just give them some time.

Pitch thing refers to both - bending and vibrato. While you vibrate you tend to push some notes above the reference pitch. At the first bends you need to push them slightly more - they are low-pitched.

This lesson is not directed much o nthe timing but without getting into details, for phrasing solos, it's not demanded to be "computer-like'. I like the time flow you play with. I would not complain at this field.

I generally like the calm and focus you present. That's a great attitude. Congratulations on the result of your work smile.gif

Hi mate!

I can notice that you are working hard here! Well done!!

Once again, there are many positive elements here in your playing like cleannes and timing which are two big things. I also think that your vibrato is not bad at all, but that technique and also your bending can be improved.

The take sound clean and precise, but not it's time to give it more feeling polishing your vibrato, bending but also focusing a bit on dynamics and articulation while playing. I think that you could dedicate some time to compare each lick with the original lesson to see how you can work on those 4 elements in order to make your take more expressive and interesting.

One technique detail, I notice that you are doing your bends mostly with your fingers, while the movement should start mostly from the wrist. The same as it happens with vibrato, which I think is correct in your playing.

Ok mate, that's all by now, keep on the good work!

Your lead playing is indeed very promising!

Given that this is a level 2 lesson I would usually not be too picky about vibrato - but since I know you can do it well I am going to mention it - because it's the biggest thing that affects my listening impression in this take.

At 00:28 you fail to imitate Darius' vibrato - and instead of doing that super subtle and gradually building vibrato. You go for "in between" which lands you in Kirk Hammet land - in other words it sounds a little uneven and out of pitch.

You still deliver more then we can expect on a beginner lesson and you get a 9 from me.

One possible suggestion: How about just owrking on one REC lesson at a time? You could still practice others in parallell but just have one where your try to get everything down to 110% . I think that would take it to another level.
