http://soundcloud.com/llibach/improv-1a Her's my take. it was done first take after listening to the track a couple of times as this is how it will be in the exam. I also did it clean to show up any mistakes. I might post another take after i have a few takes at it. You did a very good job! I have a few suggestions 1) When you are starting try to keep it less busy and have more spaces between the notes 2) Work your dynamic! Nothing grabs more attention than a good dynamic solo! It will also help you build it up! I have recorded one run through to give you ideas I would like you to record another one following my lead! http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/libachtrack Please record your take after mine and leave the rest of the track so I can do the next part! For this take I have played mostly chord tones! Let me know if you have any questions or need help! -------------------- |

Here's take 2. I've tried to sit on the notes a little and build it up a bit towards the end. When you mention chord tones do you mean that for example over a C6 chord you try and include the notes of the chord only e.g. C, E, G, A.

I would like to hear changes more! Remember we were talking about the chord tones? C6- C E G A Am9 - A C E G B Dm9- D F A C E G11 - G A D F C C - C E G Am7 - A C E G Bm7 - B D F# A D7 - D F# A C G6- G B C E F#m7 - F# A C# E B9 - B D# F# A C# E - E G# B G7#5 - G B F D# If you will resolve in those notes you will get it to work! Try to play less notes and more changes! Especially when the key is changing! Let me know if you have any questions or need help! -------------------- |

Ok, here's another take using the chord tones. I'm not happy with it but have been trying for a while and just can't seem to get it. I think it's trying to use chord tones as opposed to scale patterns that's throwing me.

I think it's trying to use chord tones as opposed to scale patterns that's throwing me. http://soundcloud.com/llibach/llibach-5 I know it's hard but as soon as you will get the chord tones adding scales will make it sound perfect! It's like a frosting on the cake! You did a very good job, but not all the chord tones were correct and I could hear some notes that were off! Here is a good exercise I want you to try! Play thirds and fifths of each chord in the next day or two and don't add anything else! Than try to record this take again combining scales and chord tones together!! After I will post another take of mine and we will continue to develop the solo! Let me know if you have any questions or need help! -------------------- |

Hey Alex. Sorry for the delay had a few things to work on but I've taken what you've said on board. Here's a solo using 3rds and 5ths, I've kept it simple to hear the tones I think I've got what you were refering too with the chord tones. The last note I think is not a 3rd or 5th but it fits so don't hold it against me

Now let's add a different register and for the first part until Bmi7 will hit use scales and after go back to the chord tones! It is sounding so melodic! you are doing a fantastic job! Keep it up! -------------------- |

Ok' I've done the solo like you said. I've used A minor pentatonic for the first part till the Bm7 comes in then I've just stuck to the same solo as last time for the tones, just so that I know that I've understood what you want. If this is what you mean I'll expand a little on it.

I've made the track downloadable now but i'd cut it down so it took less time to upload here's the one you'll need. http://soundcloud.com/llibach/llibach-mentor-2 So for a new challenge let's add some melodic minor into the solo! Over this chords C6, Am9, Dm9, G11 I would like you to play D melodic minor Over this chords: C, Am7, Bm7, D7 A melodic minor Over G6 you can play a regular scale or pentatonic of your choice! F#m7, B9 F# Melodic minor E, G7#5 E melodic minor over this chords It might sound weird at first but as soon as you will get use to it you will like it! Let me know if you have any questions or need help! -------------------- |
