I always do that when string breaks, loosen it and hook to the bridge again.
But not sure how it gets lower action tho, you should check the bridge, part where string is attached to, there is s small allen screw and if it loses then you get detuned string and eventually lower action, just guessing tho, not sure, I would have to see it for more detailed reply. -------------------- Youtube

Yeah, floating trem is really tricky to handle sometimes.
Take a break and try with new strings as well, maybe those are just too old and using the same one again doesn't work anymore, might be. -------------------- Youtube
